Nato's parliamentary arm, the North Atlantic Assembly (NAA), has appointed Simon Lunn, a 55-year-old British man, as the organisation's new secretary- general.

The NAA said Mr Lunn - a former aide of the former Nato Secretary General Lord Carrington - would take up his duties immediately. He replaces Peter Corterier, a former German foreign minister, who retired last November.
