PALESTINIANS TO AVENGE WEST BANK DEATH
Dura al-qara - Palestinians vowed yesterday to avenge the death of a West Bank man shot in a clash with Jewish settlers, AP reports.
A Jerusalem court yesterday remanded two men in custody while police investigated. Photographs published yesterday showed a Jew with a rifle allegedly taking aim as Palestinian demonstrators ransacked a settler outpost on a West Bank hilltop near Beit El on Sunday. Israel's Foreign Minister, Shimon Peres, denounced the killing: "It is a terrible incident, but we shall do everything we can to ... put the people who did it on trial." A settler leader, Pinchas Wallerstein, said settlers would not tolerate Palestinian protests near their communities. "If the Arabs try to come into our communities without permission, they will not come out alive," he said.
