Rival army units in Yemen fought with tanks and artillery and the deputy premier was wounded by assassins who killed three of his bodyguards, Reuter reports from Sanaa. The Deputy Prime Minister Hassan Makki, a key ally of President Ali Abdullah Saleh, was attacked by gunmen as he left a party meeting in the capital Sanaa.
