Serbs fire on 1,500 refugees
SARAJEVO (Reuter) - British troops used armoured vehicles to shield 1,500 Muslim refugees from rebel Serbian gunfire as they were forced to cross Bosnian battlelines in the dark, UN peace-keepers said yesterday. The Muslims, mainly women and children, had apparently been made to leave their homes as part of 'ethnic cleansing'. They were driven by bus on Friday from the Serb-held Sipovo district to Turbe, 60 miles to the south. Commander Barry Frewer said the refugees were put off the buses and as they crossed no man's land on foot, the Serbs opened fire.
