Ships freed
The US navy said that Iraq's release of merchant ships stranded in the port of Basra for more than a decade could signal the beginning of a restoration of Iraqi ports, Reuter reports from Dubai. A statement by the US naval forces central command in the Gulf said six empty merchant ships had been towed from Basra to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates since late July.
