BOGOTA (Reuter) - A high-voltage wire fell on Saturday into a lake and struck a motor boat, killing three workers at a water-skiing event in Colombia. Eight others were injured, witnesses said.
The workers were riding in the boat to prepare a competition course when a pole carrying flags attached to the boat hit the low-lying electrical wire, causing it to plummet into the water and electrocute the three men instantly. Events for the World Youth Water-Skiing Championships were suspended but resumed yesterday. Some 60 athletes from 20 nations, including Argentina, the United States, Australia, Britain and South Africa, were competing.
