The party trailing in Nigeria's presidential results has alleged massive vote-rigging and called for fresh elections, Reuter reports from Lagos. The National Republican Convention said it had lodged a protest with the electoral commission, which had been expected to announce the final result of the contest between the millionaire Muslim businessmen Moshood Abiola and Bashir Tofa. Chief Abiola's Social Democratic Party had been predicting a clear victory, and this optimism was backed by declared results, which gave Chief Abiola 4,418,610 votes against 2,393,250 for Mr Tofa.
