A fine balancing act

Trays are often unloved in terms of design. These fancy ones by Ary, available in three tasty designs – folk-stripes, spoons and intricately-drawn butterflies – are made from handmade Swedish birchwood, and they are also dishwasher-safe. Breakfast in bed has never looked so, well, lovely. £25.95, twentytwentyone.com

Best boot forward

Sandals be gone, it's time to get excited about autumn footwear. The new women's collection from Pointer Footwear will, ironically, put a spring in your step. These nature-hued suede ankle boots – available in copper, chestnut, aubergine and ginger – are perfect worn with skinny jeans. Pointerfootwear.com

Fine and dandy

Fifty years after Hardy Amies' delightful ABC of Men's Fashion was first published – as a follow-up to the designer's weekly column for Esquire magazine – the ultimate guide for the dapper gent is being recreated in film with sartorial tips from finely-clad menfolk in London, Paris and New York. Check it out at hardyamies.com.

Global heartwarming

The Olympics will soon be a distant memory. This commemorative pictogram from the Future Mapping Company – using the colours of the Olympic rings – is the perfect memento. From £25, futuremaps.co.uk

Built in a day

South London furniture-makers Hendzel + Hunt are opening the doors to their Peckham studio for the second 24-Hour Design Challenge. Last year, entrants were asked to make a functioning turntable from materials scavenged from the streets or bought in the local area. Visit hendzelandhunt.com to find out about this year's challenge.

Spray for today

There's life beyond Banksy – ATG Collective are street-artists to watch. A limited-edition, signed, hand-bound book of their intelligent graffiti is for sale at Eye in the Sky, an exhibition at east London's Stolen Space, until 2 September. £75, stolenspace.com
