AS insomniac Channel 4 viewers will know, the gridiron game has just held its 'Throwbacks Weekend' in the NFL. All the teams turned out in replica uniforms that commemorated great teams of the past, fans wallowed in nostalgia, and a mountain of kit was sold. Wouldn't it be nice, we thought, if the idea caught on over here? Shirts with proper collars, shirts with laces, big old- fashioned crests . . . then we thought again and realised where the Yanks had got the idea in the first place.
