Michael Ayers has pulled out of Saturday's European lightweight title challenge against the French holder, Angel Mona, in Antibes. The British champion from Tooting, who last May won a Lonsdale Belt outright in the record span of 95 days, is not happy with his purse of pounds 19,000.

Peter McNeeley, who last year was beaten in 89 seconds by Mike Tyson, has pleaded guilty in a Boston Municipal Court to hitting a man in the face with a beer bottle at a night-club. McNeeley received a suspended six-month sentence and will be on probation for a year.

P J Gallagher, the London-based Mancunian, claimed the vacant British super-featherweight title after a ferocious fight with Glasgow's Davey McHale at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre on Monday night. The referee counted McHale out in the last seconds of the 10th round.
