Major League owners have made a new proposal to striking players in a bid to end their seven-month dispute. The offer, which includes a plea to play the season under the terms of the old agreement, came at the first round of negotiations between the two parties since 4 March. The season is scheduled to open on Sunday night, when the Florida Marlins host the New York Mets.
