Basketball: Giants stocking up

SUNDERLAND Saints and Manchester Giants moved this week to strengthen their line-ups as the 10 January transfer deadline approaches, writes Duncan Hooper.

The Saints, second from bottom of the First Division of the Carlsberg League have signed Dejan Pusic, 20, a former player in Yugoslavia. Manchester have re- signed their former England internationals Keith Ramsey and Peter Mullings.

Doncaster Panthers, unbeaten leaders of the Second Division, have re-licensed their American centre, Wendell Francis. Mark Harvey, who deputised for Francis, now loses his place in the team.

London Towers' England international forward, Peter Scantlebury, has been named England's Player of the Year by the English Basket Ball Association. Fiona Murray, the Northampton 76ers centre, received the EBBA women's award.
