Norma Shaw skippered Thornaby into the quarter-finals of the English Women's Indoor Bowling Association National Championships in Northampton yesterday. Shaw, who has won the singles title a record six times and is bidding for her third triumph in the fours, steered Thornaby into the last eight with an opening day 26-11 victory over York. Mavis Steele, who first played for England outdoors in 1959, led Egham to a tense 17- 16 win over Hitchin side Riverain.
