Richie Woodhall said yesterday that he is taking a risk after being ordered to defend his European middleweight title against the British champion Neville Brown. Unbeaten Woodhall, from Telford, is the official No 1 contender for Julian Jackson's WBC world middleweight title, and defeat against Brown in October would almost certainly cost him the chance to meet Jackson.

British fans will be able to watch big-screen coverage of Mike Tyson's eagerly awaited return to the ring. The promoter, Frank Warren, has booked 50 cinemas nationwide on 19 August for a live satellite showing of Tyson's comeback fight against Boston's Peter McNeeley at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Anatoly Alexandrov became Russia's first European champion yesterday, when he wrested the EBU super-featherweight title from France's Jacobin Yoma on points in the Paris suburb of Thiais.
