Clean sweep for Italians
World champion Deborah Compagnoni led an unprecedented Italian clean sweep of the top three places in the women's World Cup giant slalom race in Narvik, Norway, yesterday. Compagnoni notched a combined time of 1min 56.20sec to clinch her seventh World Cup victory. Her Italian team-mate Sabina Panzanini was second in 1:57.59, while Isolde Kostner took third in 1:57.94. Compagnoni revealed that it was the first time in women's World Cup Alpine history that Italy had claimed all three positions on the podium. "I'm very happy for myself, but also for the other two girls," Compagnoni said. "I'm very happy for Italy, it's fantastic."
