Cricket: England's bowling options increase: Fraser unlikely to be risked for Test after Lewis's return to form

ENGLAND have yet to finalise their side for the first Test against the West Indies beginning tomorrow at Sabina Park, Jamaica, despite Chris Lewis's fine performance during the one-day international in Barbados on Wednesday.

His three-wicket burst ensured England's 61-run victory, but that type of form has been lacking in Test matches in the recent past. Keith Fletcher, the England manager, was non- committal about the all-rounder yesterday.

'Chris rose to the occasion on Wednesday,' Fletcher said. 'Let's hope he does the same next time he plays. It's taking time for him to perform consistently at this level and it might take more time yet.'

With Lewis's return to form, an encouraging report on Andrew Caddick's sore shins and impressive displays by Alan Igglesden and Steve Watkin in Barbados, the prospect of England risking the fractured finger of Angus Fraser looks unlikely.
