GLAMORGAN allowed fans into Sophia Gardens for free yesterday, but the Welsh county's attempt to increase interest in Sunday cricket on a week day was not blessed with success on the pitch.

The free-for-all in Cardiff was spoiled by Yorkshire, who won by 37 runs as the host county were skittled out for 188, with the pace bowler Ryan Sidebottom taking 6 for 40. Tony Cottey top-scored for the county champions with 78.

Yorkshire had earlier made 225 for 5 off their 40 overs, with David Byas hitting 71 and Anthony McGrath contributing 55 not out.
