Cricket: Hauritz's onslaught inspires Australia

AN UNBROKEN seventh-wicket stand of 84 between Alan Rowe and Nathan Hauritz enabled Australia Under-19s to level their series against England at Chelmsford on Saturday.

With the tourists on 152 for 6 chasing 234 for 9, England were in the driving seat. But Rowe (49) and Hauritz (48) kept their cool and England paid for not making enough runs and for fielding lapses.

England made the perfect start, with Daniel Harris out to the first ball of the innings, caught at backward point by substitute fielder Michael Carberry off Northamptonshire's Richard Logan. In the fourth over, Australia's captain, Michael Klinger, was also out for a duck to Somerset left-arm seamer Matthew Bulbeck.

Luke Williams and wicketkeeper Sean Clingleffer got Australia back on track. Williams was out for 93, bowled by a full-length ball from Worcestershire's Chris Liptrot.

Earlier, Gough won the toss and put on 68 with Essex left-hander Ian Flanagan. Yorkshire's John Inglis had to call for a runner after injuring his hamstring. Inglis' runner Flanagan and Graham Napier were run out in successive balls. Haywood then scored 56, but fell to a brilliant catch as Hauritz ran in from the midwicket boundary.
