Carl Rackemann joined the Sheffield Shield 300-club when he took 2 for 37 for Queensland against Tasmania at Brisbane. The former Test fast bowler moved up to eighth in the all- time list of Shield wicket-takers and is the only current player to have passed 300. Queensland opened an 85-run lead with nine wickets in hand despite a defiant batting display by the Tasmanian all-rounder Shaun Young on the second day. Tasmania were 46 for 5 before Young battled to 55 in four hours to carry them to 190. They were still 55 behind on the first innings. The emerging pace bowler Michael Kasprowicz, who will play for Essex in the County Championship this summer, outshone Rackemann on the day, taking 4 for 56. In Adelaide, the openers Greg Blewett and Paul Nobes put on 181 for South Australia at just over a run a minute as they chased a New South Wales first-innings total of 395 for 9. They were 313 for 3 at the close.
