Chris Adams scored 140 as Sussex posted a challenging total for Lancashire on the first day at Hove. Adams struck 140 off 191 balls to help Sussex to 385 all out, assisted by half-centuries from Richard Montgomerie (72) and Mushtaq Ahmed (60).

In response, Lancashire batted for only four overs before play was ended, reaching 12 for no loss.

Somerset look set for a big score after ending the day on 374 for 7 against Northamptonshire in Division Two at Taunton, thanks largely to Ian Blackwell's 140.

Glamorgan closed in on Durham's first-innings total at Sophia Gardens, with the former England off-spinner Robert Croft finishing with 6 for 98 as Durham were bowled out for 355 - adding just two to their overnight score. Glamorgan ended the day on 331 for 6, with Mark Wallace 94 not out.

Bottom-of-the-table Derbyshire crushed fellow strugglers Hampshire by an innings and 43 runs inside two days at the Rose Bowl thanks to Dominic Cork, who took 4 for 39 to add to the six he took in the first innings, finishing the match with 10 for 67.

Worcestershire beat Yorkshire by five wickets as an eventful clash at Scarborough ended on the second day.

Yorkshire were dismissed for 238 in their second innings yesterday, to set Worcestershire a victory target of 278. Ben Smith's unbeaten 87 ensured that the Second Division leaders won with ease in the end.
