Cricket round-up: Ramnarine is accused over 'chair threat'

A defeat for the West Indies in the first Test against India in Jamaica yesterday came against the backdrop of an extraordinary row between the West Indies Cricket Board and the players' union.

The WICB is demanding an apology from West Indies Players' Association chief Dinanath Ramnarine for allegedly threatening board CEO Ernest Hilaire with a chair during a meeting to discuss the behaviour and international future of former captain Chris Gayle. A letter from the board to the WIPA claimed that "Ramnarine rose from his chair, picked up the chair, and advanced towards the WICB CEO in a threatening manner."

The WIPA responded by saying that Ramnarine had "not in any way or at any time acted unreasonably or in a manner that undermines his professionalism," and demanded that Hilaire apologise to Ramnarine.

Rahul Dravid's masterly century for India at Sabina Park had left West Indies to chase 326 to win but they were dismissed for 262 with Indian strike bowlers Praveen Kumar and Ishant Sharma sharing six wickets.

Warwickshire needed less than an hour to wrap-up a 10-wicket victory on the final day of their Championship match against Somerset. Warwickshire needed only 23 runs to win, which they scored from just 20 deliveries.
