Durham's flying start excites Moxon

The Durham coach, Martyn Moxon, believes his side's excellent start to the season is a sign of things to come.

Durham, promoted from the Second Division last year, began life in the top flight with a comprehensive victory over Kent in the opening week of the County Championship last week and Moxon claims the win by an innings and 56 runs at Canterbury, achieved without the services of five key players, reflects their strength in depth.

"It was a very good performance and we're obviously very pleased with it," Moxon said. "But by the same token we're not getting carried away with it."

Steve Harmison, Paul Collingwood and Liam Plunkett were rested for last week's win following their England exertions, while Mark Davies - who took 47 wickets at an average of 15 last season - and Australia seamer Mick Lewis missed out through injury.

Moxon is likely to name an unchanged side for the game against Lancashire at the Riverside today, with Lewis not expected to recover from the hamstring strain that ruled him out against Kent.

Sajid Mahmood returns to the Lancashire team. The pace bowler was rested for last week's rain-affected draw with Hampshire following his involvement in England's one-day series in India, but returned for Sunday's C&G Trophy win over Leicestershire.

Australia seam bowler Jason Gillespie is set to make his Yorkshire debut against Warwickshire at Edgbaston. He arrived at Heathrow from the Test series in Bangladesh on Saturday but missed the C&G Trophy defeat by Derbyshire due to fatigue.

With Tim Ambrose and Tony Frost still struggling to shake off niggles, Warwickshire may again call on the Dane Freddie Klokker.

Hampshire fast bowler Chris Tremlett returns to Championship action after a knee injury when Sussex visit the Rose Bowl, while Middlesex are without Andrew Strauss (rested), Melvyn Betts (side) and Alan Richardson (hand) for the visit of Kent, for whom Justin Kemp makes his Championship debut.
