England's feathers ruffled by Kaneria 'chicken dance'

In a classic comic moment yesterday the Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria unveiled his impression of a chicken upon dismissing Kevin Pietersen and afterwards admitted that it was an attempt to taunt the England batsman during the third Test, which is finely poised going into today's final day.

"The way Pietersen flexes his arms is a bit like a chicken opening its feathers so I said to him 'chicken' and he got angry," Kaneria said. "It was great for me to get him out so I did that kind of chicken dance to celebrate. I think Shoaib Akhtar did it when he got him out in Faisalabad [last year].

"It was a bit of aggression on my part because he likes to go after the spinners, to knock you off your line and length and get runs on the board quickly. It was a prize wicket for me because he had played very well in the first innings, but I bowled the googly and managed to get it in the right spot and it hit the stumps."

Kaneria insisted Pakistan would be "in a very positive frame of mind" about chasing down the 323 runs needed to square the four-Test series, but the England captain, Andrew Strauss, believes his side are marginal favourites and that being bowled out - sparing him the need to make a declaration - may have worked in their favour.

"The good thing about us being bowled out is that it gives us potentially two cracks with the new ball and there is enough in that wicket to make us think there are 10 wickets to be had if we bowl well," he said.
