Graeme Hick and Ian Thomas both smashed record Twenty20 Cup scores to lead Worcestershire and Glamorgan to victories last night.

The pair eclipsed Kent all-rounder Andrew Symonds' magnificent 112 last week in breathless innings of 116 not out each.

Hick hit his in 65 balls, cracking six sixes and 11 fours, as Worcestershire posted 173 for 5 and went on to beat Northamptonshire by 21 runs at Luton.

Rain reduced the Northamptonshire target to 102 from 11 overs but they fell short with only three players making double figures.

Thomas's runs came in just 57 balls as he led Glamorgan's successful pursuit of 194 against Somerset at Taunton.

Thomas hit seven sixes and 11 fours and shared in an unbroken 96-run stand with David Hemp (31 not out) as Glamorgan won by eight wickets with just three balls to spare. Glamorgan have won both their opening fixtures.

James Hildreth earlier hit 66 in 33 balls in the Sabres' total of 193 for 8.

In last night's other game, Essex beat Kent by eight wickets at Maidstone thanks to an unbeaten 64 from 52 balls from captain Ronnie Irani. Graham Napier also hit 38 as Essex won with more than four overs to spare. Kent failed to post a competitive total despite a good start from their opening pair of Shahid Afridi (25) and Symonds (14).
