Jayasuriya grateful for extra rest after easy win

The Sri Lankan captain, Sanath Jayasuriya, remained pragmatic after his side had thrashed Bangladesh in the second one-day international yesterday.

Delighted with his side's performance, Jayasuriya was pleased to have wrapped up victory in such a short space of time, allowing his players some extra rest. "I think it was good to have continued our winning ways," he said. "But most importantly the break we have got today is welcome with the game ending early, especially after two back-to-back games. That was very useful," he said, referring to the fact that the two teams had very little time to recover following Sunday's first encounter.

Vaas, Dilhara Fernando and Hasantha Fernando were all impressive as the tourists were bowled out for 76, their lowest ever one-day total, leaving Sri Lanka with the simple task of knocking off the runs for the loss of two wickets. In the hosts' batting effort, Marvan Attapattu (31no) and Mahele Jayawardene (27no) shone after Jayasuriya (14) made a swift return to the pavilion for the second day running.

Sri Lanka now have a 2-0 lead in the best-of-three series, allowing the selectors the chance to experiment in the final game tomorrow.
