Australia defeated England by 63 runs here to take a 2-0 lead in the Under-19 one-day international series.

The openers Matthew Harrison and Liam Davis put on 93 for the first wicket to give Australia a solid base on which to build. Adam Crosthwaite was the other chief contributor, with an unbeaten 47, as the hosts reached 253 for 7 in their 50 overs.

Samit Patel restricted Australia to 22 runs in his 10 overs, while Daniel Broadbent was the only England bowler to claim two wickets, but at a cost of 51 runs. England were well placed to reach their target when Neil Edwards, who scored 54, and Patel, with 61 runs, put on 117 for the second wicket.

However, a dramatic collapse saw England lose nine wickets for only 59 runs to be all out for 190 in the 44th over. Michael Bright did most of the damage with three wickets for 31, while Luke Butterworth and Davis each claimed two wickets.

* England's women completed their preparations for the World Series by losing to New Zealand A by one wicket in Lincoln. Clare Connor's side fought back after New Zealand A reached 115 for 0, Nicki Shaw taking 3 for 33 and Sarah Collyer picking up two wickets as the home side collapsed. England needed one more wicket as Collyer began the final over and the Kiwis scraped home with two balls to spare.
