Shah joins Flintoff on sidelines

Owais Shah today became the second England player to drop out of the tour opener against a St Kitts & Nevis XI at Warner Park.

Shah, who finished unbeaten on 125 in a score of 424 for eight, has been sidelined with a scratched cornea and will be monitored in the next few days, as will Andrew Flintoff, who was this morning dispatched to Jamaica for a scan on his side strain.

All-rounder Flintoff was pulled out yesterday evening after reporting discomfort in his left side.

The 31-year-old's place in the XI was taken by Stuart Broad after England were granted permission by the hosts.

Flintoff will return to the England team hotel this evening and the results of the scan - which the management stress is being undertaken as a precautionary measure - are expected tomorrow.

Shah was unable to take the field at the start of the second day, however, due to blurred vision, so Graeme Swann was another to deputise in a contest the tourists requested to be an 11-a-side affair.

Paceman Steve Harmison claimed the initial breakthrough, and only one in the opening hour, as teenager Kejel Tyson nicked behind and wicketkeeper Matt Prior clung on to a spectacular one-handed catch.

But wickets in consecutive overs from Monty Panesar and Stuart Broad meant that the home team took lunch on 94 for three.

Steve Liburd drove left-arm spinner Panesar straight to short extra-cover and St Kitts captain Shane Jeffers, who got off the mark with an edged four through the slips off Harmison and led something of a charmed life, short-arm jabbed straight to deep cover off Broad.

Broad's figures were dented, however, by an assault from Codville Rogers, who hit four boundaries in one over shortly before the interval.
