Mike Yardy followed up his career-best 257 by taking 5 for 83 as Sussex softened up Bangladesh ahead of the first Test next week with a thumping victory at Hove.

The tourists lost by an innings and 226 runs after being bowled out for 196 following-on 422 behind Sussex's 549 for 7 declared.

Yardy, who has switched from medium-pace to bowl left-arm spin this season, had only taken four first-class wickets before this match, and his career-best haul helped propel Sussex to victory with a session in hand. The main plus for the tourists was a gritty 63 from 98 balls by the 16-year-old second-choice wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim.

Kevin Pietersen hit a bruising half-century as Hampshire eased into the C&G Trophy quarter-finals with a six-wicket win over Glamorgan in Cardiff yesterday. Pietersen, omitted from the England Test squad, hit an unbeaten 69 off 82 balls, with four sixes. Nic Pothas struck 114 not out and his partnership of 130 with Pietersen ensured victory with 10.5 overs to spare. Sean Ervine took 5 for 50 to restrict Glamorgan to 214 All their top seven got into double figures but only Michael Powell passed 50, hitting Shane Warne for two sixes but they lost their last five wickets for 32 runs.

Anthony McGrath glued Yorkshire's innings together with 74 to inspire his side to a 14-run win over Worcestershire at Headingley. Worcestershire, last season's runners-up, were off the pace in their pursuit of 242 because of fine opening spells by Deon Kruis and Matthew Hoggard.
