Watch: Chaos at Paris-Roubaix as riders narrowly avoid onrushing train

The Paris-Roubaix one-day Classic was thrown into chaos today after a level crossing came down mid-race.

As the riders approached a level crossing with around 90 kilometres to go, a policeman desperately tried to prevent them from passing - with a train expected in the next few minutes.

Luckily, no-one appears to have been injured - including the British favourite, Bardley Wiggins of Team Sky, who remains well-positioned as the brutal cobbled race, known as the 'Hell of the North', approaches its climax.

This is the latest in a string of embarrassments for race organisers this spring. Last week, at the Tour of Flanders, an inflatable race marker deflated while the riders were going under it.

Last week, at the Tour of the Basque Country, a number of riders - including Britain's Adam Yates - went flying over some bollards positioned idiotically in the middle of the road.
