Football / World Cup USA '94: Klinsmann rejects Everton offer
JURGEN KLINSMANN, the German striker who has already scored five goals in four matches during his country's defence of the World Cup, has rejected an offer to join Everton.
'I've had an offer from Everton but I've turned it down,' said Klinsmann at the world champions' training camp near Chicago. 'It is obviously an honour to get an offer from them. But with the greatest of respect I want to continue my career in Spain or Italy.' Monaco are refusing to release him for less than dollars 4m (pounds 2.5m).
Another oustanding performer in America, the Romanian captain Gheorghe Hagi, has been linked with Tottenham, but the 29-year-old midfielder, who has helped his country reach the quarter-finals, will delay any decision about his future until after the Romanians' involvement in the competition is over.
Graham Taylor, the former England manager now in charge at Wolves, has agreed to pay Aston Villa pounds 1m for winger Stephen Froggatt and he has also made a similar offer for the Millwall defender, Neil Emblen, who was playing non-League football only nine months ago. The 23-year-old Emblen joined Millwall in November in a pounds 210,000 deal from the Beazer Homes League side, Sittingbourne.
Fergus McCann, who owns Celtic, has named the Kilmarnock manager, Tommy Burns, as the leading candidate for the job of Celtic manager. The Glasgow club have been without a manager since sacking Lou Macari almost three weeks ago.
Leeds United have given the former England Under-21 defender, Ray Wallace, a free transfer. Wallace moved to Elland Road from Southampton three years ago in a deal which also took his brother Rod to the club.
