Gordon Milne, the former Coventry and Leicester manager, has been named as the new chief executive of the League Managers' Association. The 58-year-old Milne succeeds Jim Smith, now at Derby County, as the third full-time LMA chief, working alongside its chairman Howard Wilkinson, the Leeds manager.
Kevin Gallacher has been passed fit to start pre-season training with the Premiership champions, Blackburn Rovers. The 28-year-old Scot suffered a repeat leg fracture when he returned to action in April following the first break. Jason Wilcox has also been given the go-ahead for light work- outs after cruciate-ligament surgery and Paul Warhurst, another broken-leg victim, expects to follow suit after a specialist check-up.
Billy Kirkwood made his first move towards rebuilding Dundee United by making a pounds 250,000 swoop for the Rangers goalkeeper Ally Maxwell. The Tannadice manager, following United's first relegation in over 35 years, has signed the 30-year-old veteran on a three-year deal.
