Paul Ince scored his second goal in a week for Internazionale on Saturday to earn the Italian leaders a 2-2 draw against Fiorentina. Ince capitalised on a poor clearance to hit his first league goal of the season via a post with eight minutes left.

Vicenza wasted a chance to go top of Serie A when they could only draw 2-2 at lowly Verona. Francesco Guidolin's side were lucky to come away with a point after letting in two early goals.

Ajax and PSV Eindhoven both suffered surprising defeats in the Dutch league. Ajax lost 2-0 at NAC Breda and PSV were beaten 1-0 by Willem II. However, as second-placed Feyenoord lost on Friday the situation at the top stayed unchanged, with PSV remaining one point clear. Ajax are now sixth.

Deportivo La Coruna wasted a good opportunity to overtake Barcelona at the top of the Spanish First Division when they were held to a goalless draw at Compostela. The champions, Atletico Madrid, hung on to beat Espanyol 2-1. Barcelona, play Valladolid today.

Jean-Pierre Papin scored twice as Bordeaux beat Paris St-Germain 5-3 to cut their lead at the top of the French league. The Parisians are now just three points ahead of Monaco.

Spartak Moscow won the Russian championship with a dramatic 2-1 play- off victory over the title holders, Alania Vladikavkaz. Brilliant strikes from Ilya Tsymbalar and Andrei Tikhonov eight minutes from time secured Spartak's fourth title in five years.
