Lazio confirm Gascoigne is for sale
Sergio Cragnotti, the owner of Lazio, yesterday confirmed that the club will sell Paul Gascoigne at the end of this season, with two years still to run on his contract. Cragnotti said that Lazio were considering bids, and that a deal should be done in a few weeks. Gascoigne was close to tears as he read a statement to the Italian media. "I don't know if I'll play in Italy, Scotland, England or with the national team next year," he said. "I don't know if I'll play again. Maybe I won't play any longer." Cragnotti indicated that Gascoigne is likely to join a British team. "Paul must find himself as a man and as a player, and can do it only by returning home," he said. Chelsea, Aston Villa, Glasgow Rangers and Leeds are known to have bid up to pounds 4.5m for Gascoigne.
