Football: Luton's dismay

CERI HUGHES, Luton's Welsh international, collapsed in the dressing-room at half-time during the 2-0 home defeat by Wolves last night. Hughes did not reappear for the second half.

David Pleat, the Luton manager, said: 'He had violent headaches and collapsed and he is going to hospital for observation. We don't know what's wrong with him. He sat with a towel over his head at half-time, staggered and then collapsed.'

Manchester United obtained some welcome elbow room yesterday when their home game against City was brought forward by 48 hours to 23 April, allowing the trip to Leeds United to be put back to 27 April.

Eric Cantona will now return from suspension for the derby at Old Trafford and face his former Elland Road colleagues while Paul Ince will also be available for the City date despite being booked for the sixth time this season during Sunday's FA Cup semi-final against Oldham.

The England midfielder may even avoid suspension should the referee, Philip Don, decide in his report that Ince was guilty of ungentlemanly conduct, an offence carrying two penalty points rather than the four that would have taken him past the 21-point mark.
