Football: O'Neill on Everton's managerial shortlist

Everton's quest for a new manager enters its final phase today when Peter Johnson, the club's chairman, considers the merits of a three-man shortlist of Middlesbrough's Bryan Robson, Martin O'Neill of Leicester and Leeds United's George Graham.

Graham has really only just arrived at Leeds, but reports of disillusionment over the quality of the side and a lack of spending money were not quelled by his denial of any links with the Everton job yesterday. The Dutch coach Wim van Hanegem is coming to Merseyside for an interview on Monday, but his best hope would appear to be a back-room post.

A dispute over a bonus has held up the signing of a contract to keep Ronaldo at Barcelona. Negotiations had been suspended over the one-off bonus, around pounds 9m, which the club said they would pay to ensure Ronaldo did not go to another team.

Rangers are hoping to sign the Fiorentina centre-half Lorenzo Amoruso today in a pounds 4.5m deal to thwart Manchester United. The 25-year-old flew into Glasgow last night for talks and is expected to sign a four-year contract worth an estimated pounds 16,000 a week.

Southampton fans are ready to dump their expired season tickets outside The Dell to show the Premiership club's board the extent of their anger at the events surrounding Graeme Souness's resignation.

A public meeting is set to take place at a Southampton hotel tonight, and organisers are expecting the 700-capacity venue to be packed. "The fans have had enough, and feelings are running very high. We anticipate a very large turn-out," Clive Foley, a spokesman for the club's Independent Supporters' Association, said.

Brighton have been told by Crawley Council that they cannot share the new Broadfield Stadium with Crawley Town next season. The council-owned ground is due to be completed at the end of July, and was considered an option by the Seagulls should their plans to use Hove greyhound stadium fall through.
