AVON and Somerset police confirmed yesterday that Harry Redknapp, the West Ham coach, has been reported for alleged abusive conduct during the Hammers' 5-1 First Division win at Bristol City on Tuesday night.

The former Bournemouth manager may receive a summons pending further inquiries. The police acted following complaints from fans that Redknapp made a V-sign towards the crowd and will send a report to the Football Association. Redknapp, who was interviewed by police after the game, denies that he made such a gesture.

Hibernian are likely to face a fine from the governing body of European football, Uefa, following a coin-throwing incident during Tuesday night's Uefa Cup tie against Anderlecht at Easter Road.

The Middlesbrough manager, Lennie Lawrence, has made an increased offer for Charlton's pounds 650,000-rated Robert Lee. Charlton rejected a pounds 500,000 bid from their former manager last month.

Brentford yesterday signed Everton's Republic of Ireland goalkeeper, Gerry Peyton, on a month's loan. Peyton, who made nearly 600 appearances for Fulham and Bournemouth, has been signed as cover for the injured Graham Benstead, who has a twisted knee.

The former Millwall defender, Danis Salman, yesterday joined Torquay United from Plymouth on a free transfer. He will combine playing duties with the job of youth development officer.
