Channel Five have outbid BBC Scotland and will broadcast Scotland's crucial World Cup qualifier against Latvia at Parkhead live on Saturday.

"We realise there are some homes in Scotland who cannot receive Channel Five, but it will mean people south of the border can enjoy the action," a spokesman for the Scottish Football Association said.

BBC Scotland were furious after putting in their largest-ever bid for a game. Ian Small, a BBC Scotland spokesman, said: "We are both angry and astonished at the SFA's decision to award Channel Five this game. We believe the decision will deprive around a million Scottish football fans from viewing live coverage of the match.

"We have made a huge investment in Scottish football over the season, only for a prime game to be cherry-picked by Channel Five, which ignores our record."

Duncan Ferguson will make his Everton comeback today for the reserves against Manchester United.
