Football: Vote decides Paraguay title
THE chaotic Paraguayan season came to a bizarre end when league officials decided to hold a vote to find the winners of the 1993 championship yesterday.
The vote took place among directors of the Paraguayan league behind closed doors at the federation's headquarters in Asuncion.
Olimpia, the oldest club in the country, with 33 previous championship successes, won the vote and will play in the South American champions cup - the Libertadores Cup - next year.
League officials decided to vote to find the champions after the competition was suspended earlier this month by the Paraguayan government which was unhappy at the way the league was being run. Olimpia were leading at the time with four matches to play.
