Jose Mourinho, who guided Porto to the Champions League five years ago, appears to have lost his magic touch in the competition as his Internazionale side were held to a 1-1 draw with Rubin Kazan yesterday, their seventh successive game without a win.

In fact Mourinho's side were fortunate to escape from Russia with a point as they were down to 10 men for the final half hour following striker Mario Balotelli's sending off. Alejandro Dominguez had given Rubin the lead in the 11th minute and though Dejan Stankovic's header 16 minutes later levelled matters, the home side, in their first appearance in the Champions League, missed a number of chances after the break.

Inter must go back to last October and a scratchy 1-0 home win over Anorthosis Famagusta for their last Champions League victory.

Holders Barcelona enjoyed a comfortable 2-0 win over Dynamo Kiev at the Nou Camp. Lionel Messi gave them the lead with a low shot in the 25th minute and Pedro made the game safe with 14 minutes to go.

In the other game in Liverpool's group, Lyons thrashed Debrecen 4-0 in Hungary. Goals from Kim Kallstrom Miralem Pjanic and Sidney Govou put Claude Puel's side 3-0 up inside the first 24 minutes, and a Bafetimbi Gomis strike wrapped things up in the second half.

In Arsenal's group, the former Tottenham striker Mounir El Hamdaoui put AZ Alkmaar ahead against Standard Liège only for an equaliser in injury time from Moussa Traoré to gave the Belgians a point.
