Arsenal face a tough last-16 tie against last season's beaten finalists Bayern Munich.

Bayern have streaked ahead in the Bundesliga title race and qualified comfortably for the Champions League knockout stage. By contrast the Gunners have struggled this term as boss Arsene Wenger's long reign has come under scrutiny.

Here we highlight five facts between the clubs.

:: Arsenal forward Lukas Podolski spent three largely unsuccessful seasons at Bayern Munich before returning to home-town club Cologne in 2009.

:: The last time Arsenal and Bayern met in the Champions League was in 2004-05 when the German side progressed 3-2 on aggregate in the first knockout stage.

:: Since losing 2-0 at Bayern in that last-16 tie Arsenal have not lost a Champions League match in Germany. They beat Hamburg 2-1 in 2006-07 before collecting draws at Borussia Dortmund and Schalke in the past two seasons.

:: Bayern Munich are the record Bundesliga title winners having lifted the trophy 22 times. Arsenal have won England's top division on 13 occasions.

:: Bayern have failed to win on their past five Champions League trips to England, including defeat in their past three. Their last success on English soil was a 1-0 win over Manchester United en route to winning the 2000-01 title. They also drew 2-2 at Highbury in that campaign.
