David Beckham has hinted that transfer negotiations between AC Milan and Los Angeles Galaxy are making progress.
The 33-year-old is due to return to the Galaxy on 9 March following a short-term spell in Italy, but has repeatedly expressed his desire to extend the deal.
The MLS club, who signed Beckham from Real Madrid in 2007, have reportedly turned down an offer from Milan and talks are thought to have stalled in the last few days.
However, Beckham told Milan's website: "I have not heard from Galaxy, but from what has been said, I gather there could be good news.
"I want to stay at Milan.
"I really don't know what will happen, but I do know that next week will be very important."
Beckham wants to stay in Serie A to prolong his England career and he added that returning to America could lower his chances of remaining in the international fold.
He added: "Obviously that could affect [Fabio] Capello's decisions. I love playing football and therefore I want to stay here."
