Buy-out your LA contract, Milan urge Beckham

Milan have urged David Beckham to try to persuade LA Galaxy to agree to bring forward the break clause in his five-year contract, in October, so he can join the Italian club on a permanent basis now.

Beckham may have to fund part of the financial settlement, which would have to be negotiated, himself but would be rewarded with a lucrative contract, for at least 18 months, by Milan who are already understood to have agreed personal terms and awarded him image rights. However, the Serie A club are adamant that they will not meet LA Galaxy's demands of around £15m in a transfer fee for Beckham who is 33 and who will be a free agent come the autumn.

Milan, who have offered Galaxy just under £5m, hope that the Americans see sense and also will not want to risk a backlash by forcing Beckham to return against his will.

The midfielder, who appears set to equal Bobby Moore's record of 108 caps for England in the friendly against Spain in Seville this evening, is due to return to the United States on 9 March, when his loan deal at Milan expires. He has made no secret that he wants to stay at the club and admitted publically last week that he did not want to go back to Galaxy. The Milan chief executive, Adriano Galliani, revealed last week that Beckham's lawyers were already in talks with Galaxy, but warned that negotiations will take time.
