What do we need to know about Sevilla?

Leicester have managed to avoid the competition’s top guns and instead face Sevilla FC in the last 16 of the Champions League. The La Liga side enjoy a respectable track record in Europe, having qualified for either the CL or Europa League every year since 2004.

Their last appeareance in Europe’s elite competition came in the 2015/16 season when they only made it as far as the group stages. They were subsequently entered into the Europa League and went on to lift the trophy after beating Liverpool 3-1 in last May’s final. Indeed, the side have won the competition three years on the bounce and a total of five times.

They may be no Barcelona or Bayern Munich, but make no mistakes, Sevilla won’t be easy.

Player to watch out for?

Samir Nasri. The volatile Frenchman joined the side on loan from Manchester City and despite struggling to reach his former heights in recent years, the player still has plenty to offer. Nasri has scored three goals for Seville this season and provided one assist. The Foxes will need to keep a close eye on the 29-year-old to stop him dictating the run of play across the two legs.

How did Leicester qualify?

The Foxes qualified from Group C on 13 points and suffered just the one defeat against FC Porto at the Estadio do Dragao. The club secured their spot in the last 16 in their penultimate match against Club Brugge which they won 2-1. An easy and straight-forward run for the Foxes.

How did Sevilla qualify?

Sevilla qualified from Group H in second place on 11 points, three behind Juventus. Like Leicester, the Spaniards suffered just one defeat – at the hands of group rivals Juve. They recorded a notable 4-0 over Dinamo Zagreb at home.
