CSKA Moscow booked their place in the last 32 of the Europa League with a hard-fought 3-1 win over Palermo in Group F. Former Middlesbrough striker Massimo Maccarone gave the Serie A side the lead in Moscow but the first-half dismissal of Antonio Nocerino undermined Palermo.

The Russians made the most of the man difference as Keisuke Honda equalised and two goals from Tomas Necid turned the tide CSKA's way.

BATE Borisov also reached the knockout stages from Group E – a first for the Belarusians – with a 3-1 home win over FC Sheriff. Two goals in six minutes from Alexander Pavlov and Renan Bressan sealed the win after BATE had been pegged back to 1-1.
