Valencia manager Gary Neville’s touchline demeanour has been captured in revealing detail as his winless run in La Liga heads towards double figures.

The 40-year-old enjoyed a glittering playing career as Manchester United captain, lifting eight Premier League titles and wining two Champions League trophies.

But Neville, who is combining his role at the Mestalla with his England coaching duties, has faced a steep learning curve in Spain.

The footage was broadcast on Canal+ and offers a unique insight into the Valencia manager’s touchline antics, revealing how he and brother Phil, part of the backroom team, are using basic Spanish phrases to get their message across.

The Neville brothers can be heard saying “mas adelante” on several occasions, meaning “further forward” during the 1-1 draw with Deportivo de La Coruña on Sunday night.

However, if his message isn’t getting across, as was the case when substitute Ruben Vezo took too long to get changed, the former Sky Sports pundit reverts to some colourful use of the English language instead.

Neville has won three matches in 12 in all competitions but is still awaiting his first taste of success in the league with Valencia languishing in 11th place – eight points adrift of the Europa League spots.
