Gerard Pique, to the confusion of many, decided to cut down the net from the Champions League final and take it home with him after Barcelona's treble win.

The Spanish centre-back wasn't acting on the compulsions of a hoarder, as Thierry Henry suggested after the game, but there was a rather sweeter reason behind his act.

In fact, Pique cut down the net and gave it to a friend whose wedding he was due to miss because of Spanish international matches.

Apparently, the groom then chopped the net into smaller pieces and gave each bit as a gift to all his wedding guests.

Lovely.
