Jadon Sancho scored his first ever Champions League goal as Borussia Dortmund clinically tore apart Atletico Madrid.

The English teenager came off the bench late in the game to steer home Dortmund’s third of the night and seal all three points against a surprisingly fallible Diego Simeone team.

It was Atletico’s biggest defeat under the Argentine, after Raphael Guerreiro added another late goal to wrap up a 4-0 victory in Dortmund.

Real Madrid’s on-loan Achraf Hakimi set up Axel Witsel for the opening goal before half-time, and then created Guerreiro’s first of the night before Sancho arrived to take the game out of reach.

“The most important thing is to quickly use possession, and they did so wonderfully,” Simeone said of Dortmund. “They are doing very well at the moment, it is very nice to watch.”

Dortmund remain unbeaten in 12 games after passing their toughest test of the season thus far. The Bundesliga leaders now look headed for the knockout stage, after Club Brugge drew 1-1 at home with Monaco in the other Group A game.

Dortmund leads with nine points from three games, three ahead of Atletico ahead of their return game in Madrid on 6 November.

“We can all be very, very satisfied,” Mario Gotze said after starring in a rare start for Dortmund. “We have nine points and couldn’t be better positioned.”
