Jose Mourinho: I'm not in hell when Chelsea lose and I'm not in heaven with this win - but it's a good victory

Jose Mourinho said he was not getting too carried away despite an impressive win for his Chelsea win over Maccabi Tel Aviv.

The Blues, who had only won once in their first five matches this season, started strongly and eventually cruised to an easy 4-0 win.

Eden Hazard missed an early penalty but Willian scored a free-kick, Oscar scored from the spot and then Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas scored in the second half, as Chelsea got impressive performances from young players Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Baba Rahman.

"I'm happy with the result, with the performance," Mourinho told BT Sport. "But in the same way I'm not in hell with bad results, I'm not now in heaven because we won a game. But it's a good victory, we played well. Since minute one, we could feel that we were going to win the game.

"Missing the penalty I think was a good thing to test the team. You are in a negative moment to start the game, you miss a penalty, you must be really strong to believe. I think the players played very, very well. They showed good attitude, good with the ball, good defensively. To start with three points the group phase, it's not crucial but it's important."

Asked if he now faced a selection headache ahead of the Arsenal match, the Portuguese replied: "I never have headaches. I have always a lot of thinking. I try to read the game before the game starts and have the best decisions for the team. So a lot of thinking, yes - headaches, no."

Chelsea centre-back Gary Cahill felt the result provided just the boost his team needed.

"It was the perfect game for us," said Cahill, who captained the side with John Terry on the bench. "We had a lot of the ball, created a lot of chances, scored some good goals... a convincing win, a clean sheet - everything that we're looking for at this moment in time.

"We've had a difficult start, but we know the calibre of players we've got. We've had a slow start, a bad start. (But) winning games breeds confidence, breeds momentum, happiness - and that's just what we need."

Looking ahead to Saturday's visit of Arsenal to Stamford Bridge, he added: "It's another massive game for us - it's time for us to try to make a statement. We know it's going to be a tough game - they always are against the big teams - but we're looking forward to it and we should take confidence from tonight."
