Gareth Bale is becoming the new Cristiano Ronaldo, both on the pitch and off it seems.

Bale has taken a leaf out of world's best player's book by stating his desire to "one day" return to his former club.

The Welsh winger moved from Tottenham to Real for a world record £86m in the summer of 2013, and says he still holds the north London club in high regard.

"I’ll never forget the great European nights at White Hart Lane. They were amazing," Bale told BT Sport.

"Tottenham will always have a place in my heart. I hope the fans still love me even though I’ve moved on.

"I love Spurs fans; you never know, I could come back one day."

He added: "I hope they understand that obviously Real Madrid is a massive, massive club and that they respect my decision.

"From the moment Madrid put the offer in it was difficult. [Tottenham] was somewhere I felt so comfortable and so happy."

Eerily similar, Ronaldo said last week:

"I love Manchester," he said.

"Everyone knows that — I have said it many times. Manchester is in my heart.

"I left many good friends there, the supporters are amazing and I wish I can come back one day."
