Lorenzo Insigne: Napoli star robbed at gunpoint by masked man as Rolex is stolen

Agent confirms Insigne was in a car with his wife and two friends

Napoli forward Lorenzo Insigne was held up at gunpoint and robbed by a thief on the back of a motorbike, according to his agent.

The 24-year-old was driving with his wife and two friends as he drove through Naples on Saturday night, when he stopped at a set of traffic lights.

According to agent Antonio Ottaiana, a masked gunman on the back of a motorbike pulled level with the car and forced the four people to hand over valuables.

Italian media said that the robber got away with a Rolex watch, jewels and €800 cash - local media even claim that the robber asked Insigne to dedicate a goal to him in the match against Fiorentina on Monday night.

"Lorenzo suffered a terrible experience and told me that it was a really bad moment," said Ottaiana.

Insigne, who has six caps for Italy, trained on Sunday and is expected to play against La Viola, despite being shaken up by the incident.

The Italian government announced this month it was sending additional troops to Naples to help fight an upsurge of violence in the city, with 12 people reported killed this year in murders linked to a mob turf war.

Napoli are second in Serie A.
